Some stories leave a deeper mark not because they are forbidden, but precisely because of that. This Spanish-made young adult adaptation goes far beyond the appearance of an ordinary romantic thriller; it stands out as a film that skillfully handles the search for identity, the problem of belonging and the explosion of repressed emotions. At the center of the story is a young woman named Noah. Forced to leave behind everything familiar, the order he has established and the life he considers his own, Noah steps through the door of a completely different world with his mother's marriage. This new home, with its opulence, order, and ostentation, feels like a place that could never truly make him feel at home. Moreover, in this place, there is a person with whom he has to share the same roof and whose character clashes with his own on almost every issue: Nick. The tension between the two young people forms the backbone of the film. Nicole Wallace and Gabriel Guevara convey this tension with an incredibly believable energy as they portray two characters who both approach and run away from each other on screen. The viewer stops looking for logic to understand why these two people are drawn to each other; because the film draws you in not through logic but through emotion. Director Domingo González doesn't completely reject the familiar "good girl, bad boy" dynamic typical of young adult novels. On the contrary, they deliberately use this formula and infuse genuine character depth into it. The forbidden love theme does not function as a superficial means of provocation; on the contrary, it carries a quiet inquiry into social expectations, family structure and individual freedom. The film is also quite successful in creating atmosphere. The cold grandeur of the mansion becomes a visual reflection of the emotional entrapment in which the characters find themselves. The camera knows how small and vulnerable two people can look in large spaces. My fault, it gives more to the audience looking for romantic content for young people. Reminding of the pain of self-recognition, the loneliness of not being able to belong and how complex and unpredictable emotions can be, this film, memory knows how to surrender easily.

Someone must have got fed up with the constant slating of the "After..." series and thought - "I know, let's make something that will really make those films look good". Guess what, they succeeded. "Noah" (Nicole Wallace) has had to relocate to live with her mother and her new husband in a palatial home that also happens to be occupied by her rather weedy step-brother "Nick" (Gabriel Guevara). Now the two do not hit it off. He's a bit of a cocky git and she's equally no-nonsense about things - s...
o that ought to be the end. Rock and hard place kind of thing. Nope, no such luck. For almost two hours this takes us on the most predictable of romantic dramas that actually manages to incorporate car chases, fist fighting, sex, familial drama, more (beach) sex and a kidnapping. I would say you couldn't make it up, but clearly the series-prone author Mercedes Ron did in her novel. Amazon have early thrown some cash at this, but little of it was spent on the screenplay and the acting - well Wallace reminded me a little of Shailene Woodley but "Nick" is just an overblown drip - with or without his clothes. I know I'm not the demographic for this, but yikes - I wonder who really would appreciate this banal film. Bring back "90210"!!
